About this site

librarysystems.online is an independent reference site run by Gavin Phillips. It turns the federal Public Libraries Survey into pages that set each US public library system beside others serving a similar number of people, so that residents, trustees, journalists and students can see how one system's use, collection, hours and money compare.

All figures come from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) Public Libraries Survey for fiscal year 2024, with fiscal years 2023 and 2019 used for change over time. The ranks, ratios, peer groups and charts are computed here; how they are made is set out in the survey notes.

The site is not affiliated with IMLS, any state library agency or any library, carries no advertising at present and does not accept payment for coverage. Corrections are welcome at support@librarysystems.online.
